AKD has advised EPICo², a Belgium based infrastructure investment fund, on a joint venture with Macquarie Capital for the construction of the largest stand-alone battery storage system in the Netherlands. This groundbreaking 45MW/ 90Mh utility-scale BESS will be located in the port area of Dordrecht, on a 6000m² site. It will be used for grid stabilisation by storing excess energy from renewable sources.
"AKD is delighted to advise on the financial close of the Dordrecht project, the largest battery energy storage project in the Netherlands to date," says lead partner Lennart Crain. "We assisted EPICo², a fund backed by the Belgian Investment Fund PMV, with its next investment in the energy transition."
Renée Alberts adds: "Battery energy storage projects are a key component in relieving grid congestion and we are therefore proud to advise them with our growing energy practice, including corporate, finance, tax and regulatory expertise across the Netherlands and Belgium."
The AKD team consisted of Lennart Crain, Renée Alberts, Jan Missoul, Ludo Luijks, Lucas de Vet, Jesse Algra and Daan ter Wee.
