AKD on the war in Ukraine and its relations with Russian and Belarusian clients

 March 18, 2022 | News

On 3 March 2022 we published the following message:

The terrible suffering of the Ukrainian people brought about by the Russian invasion of their country fills our screens all day, every day. Russia is waging this war in complete disregard of the international rule of law. We can only hope that this war comes to a swift end. The international community has been quick to impose sanctions, which AKD will strictly comply with insofar as they relate to the provision of services to Russian and Belarusian persons and entities. In addition, a few days ago we started the process of reviewing and reconsidering all of our Russian and Belarusian client relationships and business connections.”

We would like to point out that there are three criteria that determine our actions: the sanctions list, our own moral compass, and the code of conduct for the legal profession.

As a consequence of our reviews over the past weeks, and based on the aforementioned criteria, AKD parted ways with all state owned Russian clients, as well as certain not-state-owned Russian clients.
