The WTR 1000 ranking was recently published and AKD is again well represented. The ranking, compiled by the World Trademark Review (WTR), breaks down trademark legal services provided by law firms in over 80 countries around the globe. WTR recognises both firms and individuals as leading in their field.
Recommendations in the WTR 1000 are presented in gold, silver and bronze bands, reflecting the reputations of teams and individuals relative to their peers, according to market research by WTR.
Huib Berendschot and Roderick Chalmers both rank in the Silver band in the Trademark Law - General category. Huib Berendschot has earned himself a separate mention for his services in the field of counterfeit goods. As a firm, AKD ranks in the Bronze band in the Trademark Law - General category.
The ranking was compiled on the basis of matter data collected over 2019-2020.
To research the market, WTR conducted face-to-face and telephone interviews and exchanged correspondence over a four-month period with hundreds of lawyers, attorneys and their clients involved with trademarks. They also gathered written submissions from firms detailing their recent activity in the field. Individuals qualify for inclusion in the WTR upon receiving sufficient positive feedback from market sources with knowledge of their practice and the market in which they operate. WTR also identifies the leading law firms and agencies in the market, as the depth of expertise that a firm can offer beyond - and in support of - its star partners is an important factor for potential clients. Firms qualify for a listing on the basis of their depth of expertise, market presence and the level of work on which they are typically instructed.
