Increasing multibillion support by investors for Stichting Volkswagen Investors Claim

Multibillion euro litigation

Since October 2015, the non-profit Foundation Stichting Volkswagen Investors Claim represents the interest of private and institutional investors, who invested in shares or other financial products of the German car manufacturers Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche and who have suffered damages due to the emission scandal.

Over the last month an increasing number of news reports were published in which groups of investors have announced multibillion euro litigation against Volkswagen. Each of the legal proceedings will be expected to last for many years to come, which would mean that the Volkswagen group would be tied up in law suits in various jurisdictions throughout Europe for the next decade. All this time Volkswagen will suffer from uncertainty about its liabilities which according to the Foundation harms the values of Volkswagen securities.

The Foundation is still advocating for an out of court solution by reaching a settlement to not further expose investors to an unsteady share price. With investors from 26 nations, the Foundation represents the world's largest collection campaign of damaged investors. Up to now the Foundation has received support of investors that have invested more than EUR 12 billion in VW securities. Support not only comes from institutional investors but also from thousands of – mostly German - private investors. This is a clear sign, showing that affected investors favour the reasonable, short term and fair solution envisaged by the Foundation.

The Foundation's approach to find a consensual solution finds widespread support throughout independent investor protection organizations. The World Federation of Investors Corporation, a non-profit organization operating on a worldwide level with 55 national members, as well as the European umbrella organization Better Finance with its headquarters in Brussels, counting around 50 independent, non-governmental, national and international members, are partners of the Foundation. The Foundation is also actively being supported by DSW, the oldest and largest German investor organization, as well as many other shareholder associations from all over Europe. An up-to-date list of organizations which are actively supporting the Foundation can be found on our homepage https://www.stichtingvolkswageninvestorsclaim.com/en.

With the increasing pressure from shareholders, unions, politicians and the general public, who all want to see that Volkswagen Group takes responsibility, now would be the right time for Volkswagen to show it is has serious intentions to cure what the company has done wrong. As long as Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche remain in denial about their obligations towards their investors, the present wave of litigation is likely to further increase, which in the end is neither in the interest of the Volkswagen Group nor in the interest of any of its stakeholders. The Foundation repeats its invitation to Volkswagen to initiate discussions on a global settlement.
