About Birgit Sommler
Birgit has been a VAT Compliance Manager with AKD since 2020. She specialises in VAT-related matters concerning the preparation and filing of VAT returns of Dutch and international companies.
Birgit has extensive experience of indirect taxation, having started her career in the Corporate Tax Returns practice of a Big Four firm in 1995. Birgit is part of the tax practice group of AKD, overseeing all VAT compliance activities (domestic and foreign) for EU and non-EU clients, including review of transactions and data accuracy as well as submission of the final VAT returns and European Sales Listings for intra-Community transactions (ESL).
In addition, she assists in VAT advisory services to existing clients within the tax department, teaming with VAT specialists from AKD and third parties throughout Europe. This also includes managing VAT audits at various tax authorities for domestic and foreign companies. She maintains contact with the tax authorities on behalf of the clients as well.
Birgit graduated as a Management Accountant at the Buhmann Europe Professional Academy in Hanover, Germany.
