About Patrick Haas

Patrick Haas is a partner and lawyer at AKD who is specialised in disputes settlement with a focus on complex disputes relating to, for example, international mass damage claims.

Patrick has assisted various claims foundations, for example during the Dieselgate scandal and with regard to the Truck Cartel. He was recently involved in an amicable settlement of damage claims by investors in a large-scale Austrian bank scandal.

Professional litigation funders enjoy working with him due to his business background. Patrick also acts in internal disputes within larger businesses, such as shareholder disputes and cases relating to directors' liability. For example he is representing a mayor Spanish bank and one of its employees in the Cancun case in a compensation claim for one hundred million US dollars.

In addition to his day-to-day practice Patrick regularly gives lectures and workshops at several universities and professional training institutes and provides in-house training courses for clients. He is a permanent annotator of Sdu's 'Jurisprudence in the Netherlands' [Jurisprudentie in Nederland].

The cases that Patrick deals with typically involve complex issues of (international) corporate law in which the parties involved have widely divergent interests.

Patrick sees it as his task to find long-term solutions and to ensure that conflicts do not escalate unnecessarily. He prefers to do this without having to go to court. Thanks to his legal and financial skills Patrick is able to achieve optimal results for his clients by using creative strategies.

In Chambers Global 2019 clients describe Patrick as 'thorough and responsive'. Other clients praise his balance and capacity to keep a cool head. One client recently said the following about him: "Patrick is a litigation expert to whom the old adage of 'walk quietly and carry a big stick' most applies. This is a man you are lucky to count as your friend."
