About Petra van Pul-Koens

As a paralegal, Petra specialises in trademarks and designs, with a particular focus on their registration. She also works on customs enforcement of intellectual property rights in cases of counterfeiting.

Registration and Administration of Trademarks and Designs
Petra has extensive experience in registering trademarks and designs both domestically and internationally. She advises clients on the availability of trademarks and designs through availability searches. Additionally, she handles applications for obtaining trademark and design rights with authorities such as the Benelux Intellectual Property Office, the European Intellectual Property Office, the International Bureau of the World Intellectual Property Organization, and national intellectual property offices in other countries. This includes managing office actions from these intellectual property offices and addressing oppositions from third parties against the grant of trademark and design rights.

In terms of management, Petra plays a crucial role in monitoring trademark applications, particularly when newer trademarks may conflict with those that AKD administers for its clients.

Petra has developed strong relationships with foreign firms that AKD collaborates with for the purpose of registering trademarks and/or designs abroad.

Anti-Counterfeiting
Petra has considerable experience in anti-counterfeiting, with a particular expertise in customs actions. Her strengths include filing requests for intervention and following up on reports of counterfeit goods being imported.

Education
In 2017, Petra completed the Trademarks and Design Rights course for paralegals offered by the Benelux Association for Trademarks and Designs (BMM), of which she is also a member.
