About Reinout Wibier

Reinout Wibier holds an ‘of counsel’ position at AKD. He specialises in property law and insolvency law. Reinout advises in complex cases and supports our Banking & Finance and Restructuring & Insolvency departments. He is also involved in developing internal know-how and training courses for lawyers.

Since 2010 Reinout has been a professor in private law at Tilburg University and combines this job with his consultancy work at AKD. In his capacity of professor Reinout regularly publishes on areas of law such as banking and insolvency law. His academic expertise contributes to the quality of the services we provide to our clients and he also forms a bridge between theory and practice. In 2007 Reinout graduated with a PhD from Tilburg University with a dissertation entitled ‘Alternatives for traditional security on bank accounts’. During his studies he explored the limits of property law security rights mainly in terms of rights of action. He also identified how contract law constructions can be an alternative to property law security rights.

Reinout also regularly speaks at congresses and teaches lawyers at post-graduate level. He is also a member of the editorial team of the ‘Nederlands Tijdschrift voor Handelsrecht’ and publishes regularly on, primarily, insolvency law. He is also a fellow affiliated to the Association of Insolvency Law Lawyers (Insolad).
